Minutes of board meeting of the Alpha Portland Cement Co. held April 17, 1895 which include the following actions: motion resolved that the capital stock of the company be increased by the issue of 3,900 shares, bringing the total issued capital of the company to $400,000 accompanied by payment schedules; motion resolved authorizing the President and treasurer to acquire the stock owned by Thomas D. Whitaker in the Whitaker Cement Co. upon confirmation of satisfactory title. The Alpha Portland Cement Co. was organized in 1895 when it acquired the Whitaker Cement Co. Originally based in Philadelphia, the company later moved its headquarters to Easton, Pa. Based in the area of the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania known as the ""Cement Belt,"" Alpha Portland Cement Co. grew to become one of the largest cement companies in the United States.
