Beyond Steel

This short essay describes Mary Ware Dennett's reactions to the Bach Festival performances. Dennett, a reformer who supported pacifist and socialist causes, is best know for her work to promote birth control. She distributed a pamphlet on sex that was banned from the mails as obscene in 1922 and she was convicted of distributing the material in 1928. After public outrage over her conviction, and with help from the AmericanCivil Liberties Union, the conviction was later overturned.

Minutes of special meeting of the Alpha Portland Cement Co. on November 3, 1898 approving resolutions authorizing the President and Council to negotiate a patent dispute with the Huntington Dry Pulverizer Co. and a resolution to form a committee to plan and obtain estimates for a new works. The Alpha Portland Cement Co. was organized in 1895 when it acquired the Whitaker Cement Co. Originally based in Philadelphia, the company later moved its headquarters to Easton, Pa.

This book discusses the different aspects with in Cement Plants throughout Nazareth Pennsylvania. The history of cement is detailed in the first chapter. The following chapters argue about cement belts, cement manufacturers, and cement mills in and around Nazareth. A chapter on the components of an ideal cement mill was discussed. Cement corporation's mills such as Nazareth Portland, Dexter, and Phoenix were mentioned. A comparison was made on a variety of cement in the Nazareth area. Throughout the book maps of the mills were inserted.

This report, done by the Bureau of Labor, investigates the strike at the Bethlehem Steel Company (Bethlehem, PA) in 1910. The report was "prepared under the direction of Chas. P. Neill, Commissioner of Labor" (title page). The report outlines the causes of the strike as well as an overall investigation as to the working conditions at the company. Numerous tables of data are provided from the investigation.

This report contains a list of employees in the Manufacturing Department at the Bethlehem Steel in June, 1902. The report lists the names of the employees, along with the department they are in, the date employed, their old salary, the date their salary was last increased, and lastly, their present salary.

This collection of maps shows drafts detailing the Freemansburg Borough and its boundaries beginning on the island opposite the Mouth of Nancy's Run with a course of North 37 degrees West to a point on the towpath of the Lehigh Canal thence down said towpath 52 perches to a point South 84 and a half degress W 25 and a half to William Gwinner's Corner. Courses and distances for the towpaths are shown on the title page and were surveyed by J. H. Boyer in 1856.

Minutes of board meeting of the Alpha Portland Cement Co. held April 17, 1895 which include the following actions: motion resolved that the capital stock of the company be increased by the issue of 3,900 shares, bringing the total issued capital of the company to $400,000 accompanied by payment schedules; motion resolved authorizing the President and treasurer to acquire the stock owned by Thomas D. Whitaker in the Whitaker Cement Co. upon confirmation of satisfactory title. The Alpha Portland Cement Co. was organized in 1895 when it acquired the Whitaker Cement Co.
