The letter is typed on official White House letterhead and O'Brien signs himself as Special Assistant to the President. O'Brien joins "your host of friends who paid tribute to you on the Floor of the House in sending heartfelt good wishes on your birthday." O'Brien adds that he hopes Walter is comfortable and in good spirits; Walter died in office later that year. This letter was written during the period in which O'Brien served as Kennedy's Special Assistant; he also served as Postmaster General under Johnson and later worked as an investment banker in New York.
