The letter is typed on official White House letterhead and O'Brien signs himself as Special Assistant to the President. O'Brien writes to Walter to express that "We were all very sorry to learn that you are in the hospital" and hopes that he will recover soon. Walter died in office in 1963. This letter was written during the period in which O'Brien served as Kennedy's Special Assistant; he also served as Postmaster General under Johnson and later worked as an investment banker in New York.
