Fire chiefs at Bethlehem

The photograph has no caption or writing to identify the location. It is obvious that it is a ""waterworks"" building and the gentlemen's attire suggest that it is circa 1890-1900. There are some undergraduate theses written in that time period and published student articles describing the waterworks in Bethlehem and South Bethlehem but none of these publications have any exterior photograph of the structure, and unfortunately, neither one of the Bethlehem waterworks exists today.

Explores an urban development project completed in Bethlehm, Pa. in the 1960's that facilitated an expansion of Lehigh University's Asa Packer campus through the razing of a residential neighborhood on the city's south side. Contrasting viewpoints are shared by residents Margie M. Barry, John Keyser, and Mary Pongracz; Augustine Concillo, Coordinator, Bethlehem Redevelopment Authority, 1961-1981; and Dale Kochard, Executive Director of Community and Regional Affairs, Lehigh University.

Levering provides an historical account of Bethlehem, PA, describing the people and events that shaped the community from the years 1741-1892. Using various original documents and manuscripts, Levering provides details pertaining to the history of Bethlehem, such as its founding, the Moravian community, its prominent figures and landmarks, etc. This book was "Issued as a memorial volume by the Sesqui-centennial committee of the Moravian congregation of Bethlehem."

This report, done by the Bureau of Labor, investigates the strike at the Bethlehem Steel Company (Bethlehem, PA) in 1910. The report was "prepared under the direction of Chas. P. Neill, Commissioner of Labor" (title page). The report outlines the causes of the strike as well as an overall investigation as to the working conditions at the company. Numerous tables of data are provided from the investigation.

This documentary short provides a biography of Olga Negrón-Dipini. Olga came from Puerto Rico to the Lehigh Valley as a struggling single mother. Since her arrival she has worked in community organizing and now serves as council woman for the City of Bethlehem. Features Olga Negrón-Dipini, Seth Mogel, Ellen Larmer, and Sam Nazario. This documentary was produced during the 2015 Lehigh University Mellon Digital Humanities/Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning documentary workshop.

This is an interview with Magdolna Krycias and Joanne Krycias, in Hellertown, PA, conducted by Andrew Krause. In this interview, Magdolna discusses her family history, growing up on a farm in Coalsville and later in Steel City, her education, social gatherings her family attended, the experiences of both her and her husband working for Bethlehem Steel, as well as her time working at Champion.

This is an interview with Helen and John Remenar, residents of Bethlehem, PA, conducted by Andrew Krause. In this interview, the Remenars discuss various topics concerning their lives in the Lehigh Valley.

This thesis, written by Wilbur T. Bachman for a B.S. degree from Lehigh University in 1922, presents the history of bridges in Bethlehem as well as a look into the history and financing of the Hill-to-Hill Bridge. He examines the history of the construction of the New Street Bridge, the Monocacy Bridge, the Minsi Trail Bridge, the Railroad Bridge, and the Temporary Bridge. Furthermore, Bachman provides a detailed examination of the history of the campaign to build the Hill-to-Hill Bridge.

This pamphlet, published by the Council of Civilian Defense, Bethlehem Area, provides information on how to react if Bethlehem is bombed during World War 2. Topics covered include: what equipment to have on hand for fires, how to participate in a blackout, how to fight fires, how to deal with injuries, etc.

This plan, prepared by the urban planning firm Gruen Associates and the South Side '76 Committee, a group representing the interests of the people of the South Side of Bethlehem, Pa., was prepared in response to a proposal to extend the I-378 expressway though the South Side of Bethlehem.
