Livingston requests a parcel containing the four introductory reports and code of evidence. He specifies directions for mailing and requests that the material be sent by the first London packet. Livingston was an active figure in the early American republic; He served as a Representative from New York (1795-1801), the Mayor of New York City (1801-03), a Representative from Louisiana (1823-29), a Senator from Louisiana (1829-31), Secretary of State in Jackson's cabinet (1831-33), and Minister to France (1833-35).
