About this Paged Content
A handwritten note in pencil identifies Ross as an Arctic navigator. See also Ross's account of the expedition _A voyage of discovery, made under the orders of the admiralty, in his majesty's ships Isabella and Alexander, for the purpose of exploring Baffin's bay, and enquiring into the probability of a North-west passage_ [1819].
Ross writes in answer to Cowley's inquiries respecting the construction of the boat used in his 1818 expedition. Ross states his satisfaction with the vessel and states that it "has been adopted in every subsequent Expedition" including the "present interesting Expedition." He further praises the design by telling Cowley that he considers this "valuable Invention as highly deserving a handsome reward."
