Image Theses and Dissertations Running behavior as a function of alley width and proportion of reinforcement There has been much theoretical controversy concerning acquisition of a response under partial, as opposed to continuous reinforcement. Results are in direct conflict with current learning theories. It was the purpose of the present study to test the hypothesis by Dr. Solomon Weinstock. A wide alleyway should provide the opportunity for more non-functional responses to occur and get built into the chain of responses learned by the animal than would a narrow alleyway. While the present study was designed to test the hypothesis about acquisition, extinction trials were also run. View Item

Image Theses and Dissertations The somatotopic organization in the caudal medulla oblongata of the albino rat In the present study, electrophysiological methods were used in an attempt to systematically delineate the somatotopic patter existing in the lower medulla and upper cervical cord. A second aim of the study was to furnish further information describing the tactile nature of the spinal tract and nucleus of the trigeminal nerve. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations On the relationship between anxiety, visual acuity, and accommodation Evidence has accumulated that a wide variety of behavior can be disrupted by anxiety. The areas of behavior that have been investigated include intellectual functioning, discrimination, and simple perception. Apparently no one has examined the functional relationship between emotion and sensory discrimination. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations The effects of delay of reinforcement on subsequent running behavior under immediate reinforcement In a variety of leaning situations, delay of reinforcement has been found to result in a lower level of responding. There is some question whether the asymptote of learning or only the rate of approach to asymptote is affected by delay. In addition, delay of reinforcement has been shown to increase resistance to extinction. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations Average reaction time and errors as a function of stimulus uncertainty while response uncertainty is constant The purpose of the study was to determine the nature of the functional relationship between average reaction time, or errors of recognition, and stimulus uncertainty, while response uncertainty was constant. Image Theses and Dissertations A test of the accuracy of crossman's confusion-function Hick, Hyman, and Crossman have conducted studies concerned with problems of information transmission. Later, Crossman suggested that the assumptions of these studies might not be justified, and proposed a method to measure discriminability of stimuli. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations Interaction of identity and position in a communication network A communication network situation was used to study the behavioral effects of the group position-identity level interaction. The position was varied by placing the subject in either a central or peripheral position in the network. THe identity levels of high, moderate and low were determined by means of a questionnaire. The results in general show that anxiety and morale were both higher for subjects who occupied the central position than for subjects in the peripheral position, and that no interaction of position and identity level occurred to affect behavior. Image Theses and Dissertations Spontaneous regression as a function of intersession interval It is the purpose of this study to perform such an investigation, responding to decreases from one learning session to the beginning of the next, employing 7 intersession intervals ranging from 15 minutes to 16 hours. The effect of varying the amount of time between learning sessions has not been explored. View Item
