Image Theses and Dissertations The reliability of simple progressive dies The stamping process, of which the punching process is a major division, is one of the most important metal parts production methods in industry. Punching dies are the heart of the punching process. Die performance, as measured by the number of strokes between sharpenings and/or repairs, determines the important per part costs of die depletion and maintenance. Existing quantitative studies are principally on tool wear and punchability. View Item

Image Theses and Dissertations Quantification of intangible factors in product design decisions This paper concerns itself with quantification of the intangible factors in Product Design Decisions where there is one very big supplier with one very big customer and a unique product. The product design is represented as a state diagram, or curve, with Time as one axis and Product or Material State as the other. Industry affects the product design curve with various levels of decisions. This paper describes four of these levels and investigates a case in which three levels are involved. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations A method of estimating the value of a computer based on-line operations control system in a production shop A simulation program is presented that develops a risk profile of the intended investment. Image Theses and Dissertations First Year GPA and Academic Service Use Among College Students With and Without ADHD ADHD is a chronic neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by significant impairments in attention and behavioral inhibition typically resulting in academic difficulties that persist into college (Weyandt & DuPaul, 2013). Although most colleges offer support services, students often do not utilize the services they are entitled to or have available to them (Chew et al., 2009). The current study is the first to examine differences in GPA using a rigorously defined, multi-site sample. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations Stress, Attributions, and Affiliate Stigma: Profiles of Parents of Young Children At-Risk for ADHD Young children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) experience impairment associated with negative outcomes; parenting practices can have a major impact on the trajectory of ADHD symptomology and related impairment. Negative attributions, affiliate stigma, and parental feelings of stress can deleteriously impact parenting practices, increasing the risk for negative parent and child outcomes. View Item

Image Theses and Dissertations Parent and teacher perceptions of home activities to encourage emergent literacy. This study examined the congruence between parent and teacher perceptions of the literacy activities young children engage in at home. A 10-step process was used to develop a 40-item, 4-point Likert-type survey of home literacy activities that was completed by parents of preschoolers from low-income backgrounds (N = 193) and kindergarten teachers (N = 210). Respondents first rated the importance of each activity. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations Parent tutoring with students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: Effects on reading performance and mother-child interactions. Students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are at high-risk for academic problems. The present study examined the effects of a parent tutoring intervention on the reading performance of students with ADHD, at home and at school. In addition, because interactions between mothers and their children with ADHD tend to be conflictual, mother-child interactions also were monitored throughout the study. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations Improving treatment acceptability among teachers by increasing knowledge of ADHD. Teacher perceptions of proposed interventions play an important role in whether or not a teacher agrees to implement an intervention and does so with integrity. It is assumed that the acceptability of the treatment to the teacher is necessary, but not sufficient, for implementation of the intervention. As a consultant, it may be helpful to know what can be done in advance to increase the likelihood that teachers will find interventions acceptable. One factor that may improve acceptability is teacher knowledge, either of the interventions proposed or the child's disorder. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations Positive reinforcement and response cost procedures: Reducing the disruptive behavior of preschool children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This study examined and compared the effects of a positive reinforcement and a response cost intervention to reduce the disruptive behavior of preschool children at-risk for ADHD. Subjects were four, 5-year-old children attending two preschool classrooms. The design was a single subject withdrawal design counterbalanced between subjects. Dependent measures included behavioral observations of negative and positive behavior, teacher ratings of behavior and social skills collected during each phase of the intervention. View Item

Image Theses and Dissertations Intervening in dietary habits of African-American children: An impact evaluation of the Every Day, Lots of Ways Interdisciplinary Nutrition Education Curriculum. Lifelong dietary habits begin in childhood. Efforts to impact eating patterns, therefore, should be directed at young children. The school environment is ideal for teaching young children about improving healthy eating habits because large numbers of students can be targeted in a cost effective manner, and instruction is a natural part of the school day. Previous literature in the area of prevention and health promotion indicates that the provision of information alone does not effectuate positive behavioral change. View Item
