It is the aim of the present investigation to help elucidate the controversy regarding the function of the caudal reticular structures. The purpose of the present experiment is 1) to find some kind of somatotopic organization in the reticular areas adjacent to the spinal trigeminal nucleus and 2) to determine the degree of convergence of sensory afferents on this area.
