Abstract

Fe-20Ni-lV alloys with 0.4 and 0.6 % carbon and an Fe-8Ni-8Cr-4Mo-25C were subjected to cyclic martensitic transformation by cooling in liquid nitrogen and heating in molten lead 10 C above their Af temperatures. The Af temperatures, determined by hardness measurements and checked by quantitative x-ray diffraction methods, were 610 C and 640 C for the 0.4 and 0.6 % carbon vanadium alloys respectively.
