Abstract

A numerical solution to Lowe's graphical method of slope stability analysis which is based on limit equilibrium is presented. Both a dimensional and dimensionless solution are discussed and formulated in detail. A computer solution to the trial and error procedure used to determine the factor of safety is outlined. An explanation of the meaning and significance of the factor of safety in slope stability analyses is included.
