Abstract

As a result of reasoning which is intuitively fairly plausible, the conclusion is reached that, under a rather natural interpretation of the notion of classes, the class of all and only those classes which do not contain themselves as elements both is, and is not, an element of itself. This antinomy (the Russell antinomy) is then taken as the point of departure for the remainder of the paper.
