This thesis presents the results of an experimental investigation to determine the effects of a variable amplitude load program randomly applied to notched butt welded plate specimens. The load program simulated actual service conditions for steel beam highway bridges and the plate specimens duplicated the fabrication method used in joining these beams to form a continuous flange.
