Critical studies within recent decades indicate that Shakespeare's use of music is emerging as something far more complex than was previously realized. A full appreciation of Shakeseare's dramatic use of song can only be fully realized when each song is considered in the context of the specific play in which it occurs, and that Shakespeare's use of song was a technique deliberately cultivated to achieve some of his most dramatic effects.
