Abstract

Children play a more important role throughout Nathaniel Hawthorne's fiction than has been fully realized. All of Hawthorne's fictional children are examined as integral to the artistic milieu and purpose of the given work; implicit in such an examination is Hawthorne's total achievement as an artist.
