Abstract

While the use of chrome salts is adequate to tan animal fibers and render the hide suitable for some end item purposes, it is often necessary to complement and/or supplement the chrome characteristics by utilizing vegetable extracts, syntans and other filling agents to arrive at desirable temper, full ness and break properties. It is the intention of this paper to analyse in magnitude and direction the many parameters in retanning that effect these leather properties.
