Abstract

The general problem to be solved: assuming a definite number of service overloads in which the pressure vessel steel is strained plastically, will fatigue failures be a factor in future pressure vessel design, and if so, in what manner? The justification for this research was not found in prior service failures; rather it has been thought future operating conditions in which much higher design stresses are applied may create the problem.
