Glaser and Kaplan Junk Yard
Through the research of David Stocker at the Bethlehem Area Public Library and the Moravian Archives, he was able to uncover photos from the 1950s of the Glaser and Kaplan junk yard. The junk yard was in operation from the mid-1950s through 1962, when preservationists and the Monocacy Creek Urban Renewal Area was cleaned up.
M & M Meat Store
Many former residents of the South Side remember buying fresh cuts of meat at the M & M meat store. The image on the right is an advertisement that the store placed in Lehigh University's 1929 Epitome Yearbook.
The building where M & M was located still exists and is now home the popular Tally-Ho tavern.
If you have memories or photographs of the stores, restaurants and theaters from the South Side, please share them with us! You can help us recreate the neighborhood and keep the stories alive!
Camel's Hump
This area was formerly known as Quaker Hill. Circa 1920, Archibald Johnston purchased the property and renamed it Camel's Hump because of the appearance of the hill.
