Beecher states that Major King is a young lawyer who served in the war with "great gallantry" and "returns to the duties of peace bringing with him a tried integrity, industry & intelligence." The brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry Ward Beecher was a social reformer and a minister who opposed slavery and campaigned for Lincoln prior to the Civil War. View Item
