About this Paged Content
The letter is written on Museum House, Oxford letterhead.
Poole writes in regard to that "little campaign in Flanders" whose chronology he characterizes as "very puzzling," detailing how different historians have placed the battle in 1070, 1071, or 1072. Poole surmises that the dating hinges on the consecration of Bishop Peter and on the ascension of the Earl of Chester of whom not much is known. He recommends a recently published article and includes a copy of his own work on the subject, _Seals and Documents_ published in 1919 for the British Academy.
