Weisel (ca. 1897-September 30, 1989), born in Hellertown, Pennsylvania, was the son of Edward and Emma Weisel, née Knecht. He was married to Leona Weisel, née Metzger. Weisel started with Bethlehem Steel in the carpentry shop in 1912 while still in high school. After serving in the Army during World War I he worked as a clerk for the Reading Railroad and ultimately returned to Bethlehem Steel, where he was the cashier for the Bethlehem plant from 1942 to 1962. He started with Bethlehem Steel in 1915 as a test boy, became a locomotive engineer in 1918, and was a locomotive engineer when he retired in 1964. In this interview he discusses steel-making processes, rail operations, shifts and wages, duties as a yardmaster, discipline, and the impact of the union. Her grandfather, Elijah Packer Wilbur, was personal secretary to Asa Packer, president of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, a director of Bethlehem Iron Co., and was involved in the management and ownership of many coal, iron, and banking companies.
