Image Theses and Dissertations Partition of load in shingle joints This paper summarizes the results of tension tests of two large structural shingle joints of A572 steel. One joint was fastened with A325 bolts and the other with A502 Gr. 1 rivets. A theoretical analysis of the load partition is also described. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations The behavior and strength of bolted shingle splices Bolted shingle joints are currently designed by methods developed for riveted joints in single shear which do not make effective use of the high shear strength of the fasteners. In this study, the results of a series of analytical studies and a complimentary test program examining the strength and behavior of bolted shingle joints are presented. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations Cremations, Canes, and Freshman Customs: One Hundred Years of Lehigh Class Traditions This thesis looks at class traditions of students at Lehigh University from the founding of the institution in 1865 until the early 1970s, specifically examining how and why they waxed and waned through the years. Traditions for and by students were readily embraced by the undergraduates. Examples included the Calculus Cremation, the cane rush, freshman/sophomore hazing rituals, and campus rules, such as the one dictating the wearing of a freshman hat known as a dink. View Item
Image Theses and Dissertations The strength of stud shear connectors in normal and lightweight concrete This report summarizes an extensive study to determine the shear strength and behavior of study shear connectors embedded in normal weight and lightweight concrete slabs. Earlier studies had indicated that various concrete properties and stud sizes influenced the connector behavior and strength. View Item
